TRADITIONAL CARNIVAL GAMES FOR CHILDREN
When preparing a list of carnival games for children, apart from music games (described below) you should also think of
“Pictionary”. It is one of the most popular games for the youngest children and adults alike. You can adjust the difficulty level on your own. The rules are as follows:
– prepare small sheets of paper (can be colored or white),
– write down words from a selected category, like animals – cat, dog, hare, on those pieces of paper,
– one person draws one of the cards and has to describe the key word,
– the rest of the group tries to guess what that person has in mind,
– the first player to guess the word wins.
You will find more variations of pictionary (a whole 7 of them!) in our previous article

Games are a great opportunity to teach others. That is why add
“Preparing a New Year’s resolutions list” to your set of carnival games. Children will have to use creativity and learn how to prepare lists of their dreams. And everybody knows that if something is on paper, it will be easier to make it come true. This rule does not only apply to adults. So:
– first, give pieces of paper to children,
– in 15 minutes, they should write down things they would like to accomplish in the new year,
– next, everyone should read out loud their resolutions.
You can modify this activity by adding new elements, such as:
- All participants put their pieces of paper with resolutions into a box.
- The first person draws a piece of paper and reads out loud what’s written on it. All participants (or only the person who read the resolutions) must, on signal, point at the person who, in their opinion, wrote it.
CARNIVAL GAMES AT KINDERGARTEN – DANCE GAMES
Physical activity is very important. That is why you should also choose physical games. The best physical games for the carnival are, of course, dance games. An interesting proposition in this case will be a game named
“Let’s dance”. This carnival game is for 4 to 40 people. The rules are very simple:
– all participants must stand in the middle of the room,
– turn on the music,
– one person should give commands, such as “dance with your hand/legs only”,
– the person who fails to do the task gets a penalty point or a small task, or simply nothing happens :).
FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME
Folding Floor is another integration game with music:
- each team receives a piece of fabric of the same size; it will be the floor.
- Participants must fit onto the piece of fabric while dancing.
- The game is played in stages. In each next stage, the participant/group folds the fabric in half and tries to fit onto it again.

CARNIVAL GAMES AT THE KINDERGARTEN GYM
To make things more interesting, you can combine educational games with active ones. For example, spend 30 minutes in the classroom doing creative, verbal and educational tasks and then move to the gym to have a sport competition or a disco party. In such cases, we recommend inviting other classes.
“Animals” is a great example of a game that can be played in the gym. It can be played by 2 to 30 people aged 5 to 7. You do not need any equipment for it. All you need to do is:
– ask the players to stand in a circle,
– choose the leader who will be telling the activities that other players will need to perform,
– when the leader says, for example, “the birds fly”, everybody starts flapping their hands,
– if the leader changes then name of animal and the action, players follow the new instructions.

A good proposition for the youngest is
“Simon Says”. This game is well-known and often used at parties for children or adults. You do not need any props. All you need to do is ask the players to stand at some distance from one another and then:
– choose the player who will be Simon,
– he or she can give various orders e.g., “Simon says: stand on one leg”,
– players who fail to do the task or do it incorrectly are out of the game.

“
Ping pong aim” is a fantastic carnival game for preschoolers. It is a good way to practice one’s accuracy. To prepare the game, you will need 10 ping pong balls and one box for each person. Then:
– place the boxes in a row on the floor,
– mark a line about 3m away from the boxes,
– players have to stand behind the line,
– the game leader decides on the time limit for placing balls in the boxes e.g., 2 minutes,
– the person with the most balls in the box wins,
– what is more, whoever manages to have 3 successful throws in a row will win automatically.
Carefree entertainment – carnival for children
We must not forget about fun, joy and rest. Both children and adults need them. That is why, together with the parents, organize carnival games at kindergarten. It will have a positive impact on you and on the youngest ones. If you lack the ideas, use our
Book of Games. Every week, we add new propositions of games and plays for all occasions.
