Family Christmas – Games and plays for the Christmas period   Christmas is coming! Oh, the jolly time full of meetings, cooking, presents, cleaning and even more cooking. Children do not go to school and adults can hope for a day off.  Soon, we will all sit by the Christmas table and then we will start the usual conversations on politics, the Covid-19 pandemic and, of course, the superiority of tiled stoves over regular ovens. However, some topics in which everybody has a different opinion should be avoided – instead, we should focus more on spending time with our family. For this occasion, unusual and creative solutions in form of simple games and activities may be very useful. Seriously! All you need to do is to force the anthropoids to stand up from the couch and put their phones away to move a bit and create some funny memories   For starters: Preparations for the Christmas Eve dinner and gift-wrapping:   First, prepare the ribbons for gift-wrapping. To can turn this activity into a small challenge: – Cut out as many pieces of ribbon of various length as there are participants in the game. – The task of each participant is to measure their piece of ribbon without any standard aids i.e. they must rely on their creativity. They can use their foot, body, or various objects e.g. a phone or a pan. – We check whether the results of our measurements match the actual length of a particular piece and then choose the winner!   Next round: gift-wrapping. Okay, we have prepared the ribbons and cut out the decorative paper. Now, it is time to wrap the gifts. For this activity, we propose the following task in pairs: – Tie the right hand of one person with the left hand of their partner. – Now, each pair must pack the present with their free hands as neatly as possible. – Decide on a time limit for the task. – Then, admire the results of your hard work!   Okay, the presents have been wrapped. Now, it is time for some cooking. In this case, you may try preparing unusual candy cane cookies. Meanwhile, as befits the cooks, you may play simple word games that follow the Christmas theme:   Round 3 – Conversations in the kitchen: Word game – Snowy brainstorm: – A very simple task: the participants, in a specific order, come up with applications for snow. – After listing the obvious uses, such as building a snowman, making snowballs, etc., it is time to rely on your creativity! – Remember! All the applications must be realistic and justified.   Find the game here:   Word game – From A to Z – We choose the theme for our game – Christmas – In the determined order, participants say a name of an item or a person that starts with a particular letter of the alphabet (e.g. A – angel, B – borscht, etc.) – The person who fails to come up with a fitting word during their turn is out of the game and watches the efforts of the others – Of course, you cannot use your phones to find hints – The game can be played in teams: teams write down the words on a sheet of paper within a specific time limit.   Find the game here:     Everyone’s hungry! We have sat by the Christmas table. After exchanging Christmas greetings and tasting all the dishes, everyone (especially children) awaits this particular moment. The time when despite the fact that you are almost certain about what you will find inside, you still have a pleasant sensation of uncertainty. Of course, we are talking about opening Christmas presents. In order to change it into a memorable event, you can turn unboxing into a mini-game All you need will be… a pair of oven gloves!! The task is simple: you must unpack your present while wearing a pair of oven gloves. If you have more pairs: you can play the game in form of a race   Everyone received their presents and feels stuffed. Now, the whole family should celebrate the evening together. At this point, we recommend refraining from posting family pictures on InstaStories or browsing through the pictures posted by others – just spend some quality time with your relatives. You may find these simple games and activities helpful:
  1. Christmas tree:
– Give everybody an A4 sheet of paper (preferably a green one). – On signal, every participant must rip their sheet of paper apart to create the shape of a Christmas tree – However, the participants must hold the paper behind their back for the whole time – Once they finished, participants show their Christmas tree and then you should jointly decide on the prettiest one! Find full game here
  1. What’s inside Santa’s hat?
– Prepare a Santa’s hat (or a large Christmas sock). – Choose a person who will put a small object into the hat. – Another participant must guess the item inside the hat only by touching it.
  1. Santa Claus plays Limbo:
– It is a well-known game in which the participants must pass under a vertically placed stick. – Players can only touch the ground with their feet and must not lean forward when going under the stick. – Another zest can be adding a Santa Claus belly i.e., the player must put a pillow under their shirt and before their attempt to complete the task! Find the game here:   Of course, there is a never-ending list of games and plays. That is why you should use our Great Book of Games and Activities on  Gamionary, if you are looking for additional more options.
