20 ideas for games and activities for the New Year’s Eve.

That’s right! It is almost time for the obligatory party of the year, where everybody counts down seconds left to midnight. Basically, nothing changes afterwards. However, not everyone (especially in times of pandemic) gets the chance to join a huge funfest in the city center or a popular tourist spot.   Many families or groups of friends choose to spend the New Year’s Eve with just a bunch of people in the privacy of their home or dorm. But, if you decide to spend that evening a bit differently, to make it actually one-of-a-kind, we can help you with a set of popular or less known games and activities for the New Year’s Eve.   Games for the New Year’s Eve:
  1. Pictionary (7 different variations):
You can prepare your own key words on pieces of paper or use a key word generator on the Internet. Then, divide into teams and go on with the game. Task: to show a key word or phrase so that your team will guess it. Pictionary has many variations. Below, you will find links to descriptions of 7 different versions of the game of pictionary that you will find in our book of games and activities:
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/one-sentence-pictionary/– The player from a particular team can only use one sentence to explain the key word or phrase that their team must guess.
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/reversed-pictionary/– One person tries to guess the key word or phrase presented by the rest of the team.
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/characteristic-pictionary/– The selected participant must present, only by moves and gestures, a characteristic feature of another participant.

  • https://gamionary.com/gry/silent-pictionary/– Each participant comes up with 1 key word or phrase and writes it down on two pieces of paper. Each participant draws one piece of paper with a key word or phrase. All players from both teams play pictionary at the same time and in silence (they start showing their word) and, simultaneously, looking at other players searching for a person who, in their opinion, is showing the same word.
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/pictionary/ – the standard variant: one person is showing and the rest of the team must guess the key word or phrase.
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/music-charades/ – The selected participant must show a song that they are listening to while wearing headphones.
  • https://gamionary.com/gry/phone-pictionary/ interpretation of key words and phrases but by drawing. It is impossible to describe it in one sentence; I encourage you to read the full description of the game

  1. Dance games:
Dance is one of the most dominant activities that we associate with parties and celebrations. However, not everyone feels comfortable about dancing. That is why we recommend adding entertaining elements to this activity:
  • Newspaper dance– In pairs, participants dance on a newspaper that, from time to time, is folded in half to increase the difficulty level. They must not fall off the newspaper!
  • Thumper– Each participant comes up with their own simple dance move. Next, participants show their moves in synch with the rhythm and then show a move of any person in the game. Now, that person must show their move, in synch with the rhythm, and then a move of another participant, and so on.
  • Let’s dance– tasks involving dancing, for example: we dance with one leg or just our head and the left foot.
  • The dancing chain– the selected participant starts by showing any dance move. Next, all participants join him or her in synch with the rhythm. Once everyone is dancing in the same way, the next person in order adds another move and this way we end up creating a complete choreography!
  • Balloon waltz– a well-known variant of dancing in pairs with a balloon between the partners. The selected person says various tasks and the balloon must not fall on the ground!
